If you need any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you will need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements, but first please complete and return to us a form "Travelling Abroad" which is available as a paper form from the surgery or use the online "Travel Questionnaire" below. On the form you will be asked general health questions and also which countries and areas within countries you are visiting to decide which vaccinations are needed.
Once you have submitted your form, you can make an appointment with the practice nurse at least 8 weeks before you travel. You will be asked to come back for a second appointment with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations because these vaccines have to be ordered according to what you need. Your second appointment should be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines time to work.
Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and the pharmacist will make a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.
Occasionally, in some circumstances, the nurse might have to refer you to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine for more specialised risk assessment and vaccination. She will advise you if this is the case.
